Creating Change

We all experience different levels of motivation for making healthy choices throughout the day. Sometimes, we recognize that better habits could improve our health, but we just don’t feel ready to take action.

It can be hard to see our options clearly when we’re clouded by negative beliefs and assumptions, fueling an Inner Critic that erodes our self belief and self acceptance.

Replace “Should” with “Could” and Open Yourself to a World of Possibilities

There are many things beyond our control, but one thing we can control is how we respond to our thoughts. By practicing heightened awareness of our mental state, we can choose whether to let our thoughts control us or not. This isn’t complicated, but it does require effort—a lot of effort.

Healthy Choices Are Habit-Forming

Our actions are key to building positive experiences that support our health and fitness goals. Conversely, if we stay reactive, we can fall into destructive, demotivating patterns. It’s important to take care of our relationship with our thoughts. Enhancing our moment-to-moment awareness requires constant practice. Sometimes, we’ll feel motivated; other times, we might feel like giving up. The challenge for all of us is to ensure that the feeling of giving up doesn’t last longer than our resolve to make a positive change in our lives.

Practice Self Compassion

Taking care of our health is a journey, and along the way, it’s important to be kind to ourselves. Self-compassion means treating yourself with the same kindness and understanding that you would offer a friend.

Be gentle with yourself, as you would be with a friend, practice disentangling from that Inner Critic, and remember you are not alone.
